Antoine Arnault, the head of image and environment at LVMH, has emphasized the need for luxury fashion brands to work together to bring about meaningful sustainability change within the industry. Speaking at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, Arnault called for the aggregation of industry leaders to collaborate on sustainable practices.
Highlighting LVMH's previous success with open-source forums, where experts from the company's Wines and Spirits business shared best practices, Arnault expressed the importance of applying this approach to the fashion sector. He invited competitors to join hands in establishing the proper standards and methods for conducting sustainable business.
LVMH has shifted its approach from long-term objectives to short- and medium-term targets to make sustainability goals more attainable. The company aims to reduce energy consumption by 10% and greenhouse gas emissions by 11% between October 2022 and October 2023. Additionally, LVMH has pledged to achieve full traceability of raw materials by 2025.
Arnault expressed optimism about LVMH's sustainability efforts in the coming years. He acknowledged the innovative approach of designer Stella McCartney, whose brand LVMH invested in, stating that scaling her solutions could benefit both smaller and larger maisons.
